Hello Annie. The men carrying the images are often refereed to as shadow casters, puppet masters, or marionette players as quoted from the text.
I don't think I would consider these individuals as educators, however it may be a good argument to consider. Because these individuals are casting shadows or false realities to the prisoners they are rather deceiving them as opposed to enlightening them or educating them. The philosopher or returning prisoner would probably be more suited as an educator as he is trying to liberate and convince the prisoners of lives truths.
The shadow casters can resemble many things in society one common instance would be of a deceptive government or advertising. In other words a group or person in a state of power who is oppressing or imprisoning those below them from rising up. To do so they deceive. Advertisers deceive us by associating desires with their products, this is casting shadows, and those who buy into such ads are the prisoners being deceived.
