KH-51at Valkjärvi

Hi!

This Curtiss P-40 M-10-Cu "Warhawk" (not Kittyhawk!)"23" vas from russian 191 AP regiment. It was flown by a 2.lieutenant Vitalij Andrejevitsh Rjevin, a young pilot, when it made a forced landing to the Valkjärvi ice on 27.12.1943. (Lake Valkjärvi was frozen then). The weather was quite bad, clouds (10/10)about 300-500 meter,little rain of snow. The pilot was trying to land earlier to the lake near Kivennapa Ahijärvi, but finnish forces had light anti-aircraft gunfire on the area, and Rjevin was forced to take off and interrupt his landing prosedure. He landed later in bad weather to the Lake Valkjärvi ice. The young pilot was captured. He said, that he had been on training flight and got lost and airplanes fuel was end.

The plane was new quite new, it´s serial number was 43-5925.
