I play for a village side and feel that is a big shame that a town of that size is struggling so bad! Is there nothing the HCB can do for them?

I understand that point, however the HCB need to concentrate more of their funding on local cricket and not just the youth side! Cricket in Leominster Schools and the area as a whoel needs to be developed and this could be doen in conjunction with the cricket club, however obviosuly they need people there who would be willing to put in time and coaching. The 'chance to shine scheme' would be perfect for Leominster and would enable them access to more players from a younger age!

What can the HCB do?! do u really think that people want to play for leominster? their pitch is poor and it is not really a cricket club that makes u feel at home being located at the leisure centre.

A great shame in what was once a great league.

What do people see as the underlying issue(s) then??

The underlying issue is that the league could not sustain a certain standard of cricket. It also made no attempt to link itself to any pyramid structure allowign teams to further their cricket. In a county as small as Herefordshire it would be silly to think that Herefordshire would ever create leagues to match those of other larger counties and so for that reason the ambitious have departed! The committee are up against an impossible position!

I don't agree there.

The standard on the field has not improved in the past twenty years (Kington excluded) except for paid/foreign players. In the 80's, the likes of Eastnor, Ledbury, Knighton, Bromyard, Brock, B&T, Lucton, Kington, Builth, Canon F had great sides, do they now.

The really sad thing is that in general the squares are poorer, the pavillions have not improved much, changing rooms are the same, but the characters have gone.

Cricket has changed, no crack any more, too many players (and some clubs) think they are better than they are.

Sad days, because cricket is still played for pleasure on a Saturday, but it ain't what it was.........................

I agree. Everyone wants to compete, but at the end of the day we are giving up an afternoon in the pub to play this game so we should do with a smile!

Why the obsession with pyramids??

How many clubs are really good enough to play in the Birmingham league?? The standard is incredible, there are only half a dozen players in the Marches league who would last five minutes.

Lets get back to playing cricket for fun, lets lead the way and put the smile back into the Marches league.............................................

Stuff the Egyptions!

At the end of the aren't day teams like Cannon Fodder are leaving at 10 getting hammered and getting back at 10 at night. Let's have a laugh for christ sakes.

Do Cannon Fodder's players drive at 10mph all the way? The furthest they've travelled this year must be 20 miles.

The Marches is what it is, A village league, for village sides to play village cricket. But whatever you do, don't have a pop at the likes of Ross, Canon Frome, Wormelow, Monmouth, Burghill and others who up and left to improve their cricket.

I don't think anyone is having a pop, it's just everyone should know their level.

I agree. i am a big supporter of clubs moving forward and striving to improve their cricket. The worrying thing is that Herefordshire is not big enough and doesnt have enough players of a certain standard for a huge number of clubs to compete. Perhaps too many sides are leaving, however if they and their members are happy in the league they play i dont think anyone can argue!

Apparently Shobdon couldn't get a side either on Saturday. Seems like it a bit of a downwards spiral.

Clearly soembody with no knowledge of the Birmingham League div 3 standard or worcester league division 1! If there are no players good enough to play, how come Kington after a terrible start are holding their own!
