scientists will be able to ...well actually are already doing this...splice genes of one organism onto another. This is how we have human insulin instead of pig or beef insulin for our diabetics.
As for why they so such things...well they tend to do what they
can and then the uses come later. Wouldn't it be useful for instance if a human heart could be grown in a pig? (I feel the jokes coming on now)
