My mother's maiden name is Wormall and following some research into my family history, I found out that my Great Grandfather John Edward was born in Wymondham in 1875 (the 1881 census showed that he was living at the Hunters Inn) and his Father, George born 1847 ish and Grandfather, John in Edmondthorpe 1810.
My great Grandfather left the village for the smoke and both my Grandfather and my Mother were born in North London.
As I was staying in Oakham for a guided walking holiday in Rutland I decided to pop over the border last Sunday to see where my ancestors came from. I found it an uplifting experience and after 7 miles of walking, lunch at the Windmill Tea Rooms was well received. My impression of both places were that they were neat, tidy and had a sense of community.
Thank you, will be back.
