Respond to this message Goto Forum Home Melton Road Railway BridgebyConfusion over the warning signs and who had right of way, coupled with a dip in the road and the bollards, contributed to several accidents on the bridge. The bollards were removed and, although the single lane markings are still in place, there are incidences of them being ignored. This month (June 2009) we are led to believe the bridge will be demolished and the cutting infilled. I doubt a tunnel for wildlife will be incorporated, but what is of greater concern in the longer term is that there may be an increase in heavy heavy vehicles using the road. In the short term, if traffic is diverted along Butt Lane while Melton Road is closed, the bridge on that route is of even more concern. The only route to the village that doesn't pass over or under a bridge is Glebe Road, which is single track and passes over a level crossing, for which the gates are usually closed. Byron Rhodes, our current County Councillor, has stated that, if re-elected on June 4th, over the next four years he wants to see The implementation of an HGV control network in the Wymondham and Stapleford area currently held up by a local planning dispute. Respond to this message Goto Forum Home Dent family historybyTwo of my uncles are mentioned on the war memorials in the church Roland (Dinkie) Dent who was killed in 1944 over Berlin, his name is sketched into a chest opposite the memorial in the church, although the memorial in the churchyard has him as Robert Dent. And his brother Cyril Robert (Bunt) Dent who survived the war and moved to America. My cousin Cordelia Smith was christened in the church in 1945. If anyone has a plan of the graveyard and the position of the grave of Frank Dent I would be most grateful, I have visited before and written to the vicarage but have had no luck in gaining a response. Thank you Jane Dent Respond to this message Goto Forum Home Re: Dent family historybyBest regards, Jake WebCobbler to Wymondham Respond to this message Goto Forum Home Re: Dent family historybyThe Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society list a CD (Item No. CD77) titled Leicestershire & Rutland Burial Index for £20.99 at: https://www.ukhosts.com/secure/lrfhs/ Burials at Wymondham from 1813 to 1962 are covered, but I don't know in what detail. Respond to this message Goto Forum Home E W GarnhambyIf anyone saw 2 soggy people squelching through the churchyard in September it was us taking notes and photos of our Gill, Garnham and Brown ancestors gravestones. But somehow we missed Edward William Garnham, the hard-drinking draper (his shop was in Main St I believe). I've been trying to track him down online and came across a google-books reference to that 'sneak Ted' in a book called Folklore of Leicestershire and Rutland by Roy Palmer. I've obtained the book but the poem isn't there! Does anyone know if EW is in the graveyard, or does anyone have a different edition of the book with the poem in? I have the 2002 reprint, perhaps its only in the original 1985 version. Supposedly on p253/254. Many thanks for past information and assistance. Jill Respond to this message Goto Forum Home E W Garnham's gravebyThis photo shows the location of the Gill's and Garnham's graves:
Marion Gill's and her parents' are against the wall. The parents' gravestone is similar in style to the Garnhams'. Any connection? Coming towards the viewpoint is Edward William Garnham's gravestone: born August 11th 1829, died May 23rd 1899. The nearest two are for Anne, wife of E W Garnham, November 8th, 1831 to July 4th, 1875; and Frederick-William third son of E W & A Garnham, died July 3rd 1866, aged 6 years. Also in remembrance of Edward-Hope, son of the above, who died in infancy, July 1863.
