Field and stables wanted to rent

by

I am urgently looking for either DIY livery or a field and two stables to rent for two well behaved ponies. I also need a space to park my small lorry.

If you know of anyone who can help please contact me on either 01572 768174 or email janietee_5@hotmail.com

Thanks.

Hello there,

I suggest you ask to pin up a note outside the Post Office/Cottage Stores, or find a Pony Club member if you are prepared to look further afield.

Cheers,

Hunters Inn - Li Howell

by Liz Keightley

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. I understand that Li Howell ran, or helped to run, the Hunters Inn around the second world war. She had a child called Gerry, and they left to live in London with Fred Keightley.

I am tracing the Keightley family tree and would like to find out more about her and Fred if possible.

Many thanks, Liz

Waltons in Wymondham

by

I am searching for information about the Waltons in Wymondham. My ancestors descended from Daniel Walton born in Wymondham in 1786. I know only that he died in the Melton Mowbray workhouse later in life. His son, William Walton, married Jane Stafford and their child, Susanna was my gtgrandmother. I am hoping to confirm my suspicions that Daniel and Anne had at least 4 children - Eleanor, Jane, Page and William as it suggests from the 1841 census. Any help would be appreciated and if you're a Walton, I cetainly would like to hear from you! My mother remembers visting a Clifford Walton who was supposedly her cousin when she lived in Leicestershire. Perhaps someone knows who he was and what his exact connection was!

Waltons

by

I have a transcription of Wymondham Parish records. I cannot find a baptism for David Walton in 1786, but his children may be of interest. I found:
Page Walton son of Daniel and Ann bp 3 Nov 1811.
Elizabeth Walton bp 7 Mar 1814.
Mary Walton bp 16 Dec 1816
Jane Walton bp 15 Mar 1820
Thomas Walton bp 2 Jun 1822
Ann Walton bp 6 Jul 1823
William Walton bp 30 Jul 1825
Eleanor Walton bp 26 Oct 1828
He is always classed as a labourer, and I cannot find a marriage for William and Ann.

Family History - Bartram

by

I am researching my family tree and am related to the Bartram family originally of Buckminster / Sewstern. I am led to believe that my Great Uncle Edgar Bartram (who married Amy Royce)and my Great Uncle Arthur Bartram (never married) lived in Wymondham around 1935. Edgar, I believe, lived in Wymondham Lodge and Arthur in some cottages (I think Arthur died in 1948 and is buried in Wymondham). I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the above or can give me any more information. Thank you.

The only other Bartram I can find was
Hannah Nixon Bartram buried on 25 Aug 1944 age 92, she came from Stanford Bingley, Berks.

Bartram

by Frances kent

Hi Ray, Many thanks for your message.

You wouldn't happen to know if they both have gravestones do you? I may be visiting the area soon and would like to take photographs if so.

Thanks again.

some of my wifes ancesters were bartrams.

by

In reply to your message about the Bartram family from Buckminster/Sewstern.
I believe we may be related as my grandmother was Mary Ann Bartram of Sewstern and had five brothers , two of which were named Edgar and Arthur.
There are several headstones to Bartrams in Buckminster churchyard.
I hope this may be of some interest to you.
Linda Green.

ALEX CLARKE, WHERE ARE YOU?!

by

Hi Alex,

I know you used to live in Wymondham with your parents before moving to Hull after Bishop Burton - but where are you now?

I've lost all your contact details!

It would be great to meet up again and go to the all old haunts!

Get in touch!

Rach.

Memories

by

At the time I didn't appreciate how pretty the village was, but have very fond memories of people and places.

Always remember Tim Moloneys horses exercising through the village and everything involved with a cricket tea...especially when the match was between Wymondham and Edmondthorpe....Also Len Thacker and Mrs Saunders, two lovely people.

Still miss my Grandparents Steve and Vera Taylor.

May Festival website currently unavailable

by Jake Young

The webhost for the May Festival website at http://wymondham-may-festival.le14.co.uk made some major changes over the bank holiday weekend, with the result that the Festival website and several others are currently unavailable. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Festival is on Saturday 6th May, commencing with an inter-village kids' football tournament at the School at 10:30am before Maypole and Morris Dancing on the Green at lunchtime. There'll be stalls, games and a beer tent on the Green, with other activities at the Berkeley Arms and Village Hall. Prize-giving will be on the Green at 4:30pm and the afternoon will end with a Gospel Singing Workshop at the Church. There will also be a wedding during the afternoon, so if planning a visit to the Church please choose an appropriate time. During the evening there will be a performance by Hank Wangford and Reg Meuross at the Village Hall, rounding off a day to remember.

We look forward to seeing you!

Ivor Rae Hickman

by

I am researching for a book on Hampshire people who were involved, fighting Franco’s fascists, in the Spanish Civil War. I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me with any information on;

Ivor Rae Hickman, was born in Southampton, and graduated from Cambridge. He was married and working in Manchester at the time of going to Spain, where he was killed in action in September 1938.

His father, George Hickman, a poultry farmer, was living in Wymondham at the time of his death in 1937.

Hello Alan,

I can confirm your query has been published on the letters page of this week's Melton Times, where it should be spotted by Trevor and Pam Hickman of Wymondham.

George Hickman

by

Hello,

I was interested in your post dated 1 Mar 2006. I believe the George Hickman you refer to is my Grand Uncle. I have information on George's ancestors, but I'm afraid I have nothing on his descendants. If you are interested you can contact me on the above email address and perhaps we may be able to help each other out.

Jan Davis

PS You might also be interested to know that Trevor Hickman (local author who also lives in Wymondham is George's nephew).

Further to my recent request,I now have some burial information William Clarke was buried in the churchyard in 1849 and his daughter Catherine was buried aged 17 on 9/1/1842. Can anyone tell me if the headstones are still in situ?
Thanks
