Back on Dec.17, Chris Lloyd-Staples asked a question about the circular suspension caps in the Tristar Panzer IV wheel set and then on Dec.23 Andrew Ruffy asked a similar question relating to his Tristar Panzer IV B.
I didn't know the answer myself, but it got me thinking. There is nothing mentioned in the Begleitwagen Panzerkampfwagen IV book by Walter Spielberger about the different designs, so I decided to look through all the Panzer IV based vehicle books and photos I have to see if there was any pattern to their use. I have only included those vehicles where I could clearly identify the type used.
Here are my findings:
Tristar parts 16-17
Panzer IV D - APG and Bovington
Panzer IV G - APG, Munster and Kubinka
Panzer IV J - Littlefield collection
Panzerbefehlswagen IV J - Brussels
Panzer IV Hydrostatic drive - APG
Brummbar - APG and Saumur
Nashorn - APG and Kubinka
Hummel - Koblenz
Wirbelwind - Camp Borden and Rendsburg
Jagdpanzer IV L/48 - Munster
Tristar parts 9-10
Panzerbefehlswagen IV J - Brussels
Jagdpanzer IV L/70 - APG
Mobelwagen - Saumur
Panzer IV J - Banska Bystrzyca
Panzer IV J - Dukla
Tristar 18-19
Jagdpanzer IV L/70 - Ottawa
The Pz.Bef.Wg.IV J at Brussels has two different types on it and perhaps some of the other vehicles do as well, but I don't have enough photos to verify it.
If anyone can add to this list, it would be helpful.
Thanks,
Tom
