Response to Hi Rob

Niels,

Making sense of some of these accounts is tough. The positioning of the men alone is tough to get straight; when the bullets started flying, things get even more convoluted, as expected.

The accounts of Heim do seem to be about the best, but he's either misquoted in some sources or else his story changed a bit over time, b/c even his account is not always the same. I'll go back to my sources (and the endnotes for those sources) and see what else I can find. I agree, often one source gets it wrong, then others take from the wrong source. Happens all the time in history. Study the JFK assasination and you'll REALLY run into this (I had to do that in a college class years ago)!

Niels, if I can trouble you for one thing....I could use any info you might have on the road surface (I think we've agreed in the past it was just packed dirt), it's width, the distance from the bridge to the bend in the causeway, the length of the bridge, etc., as I want my diorama, when I get round to it, to be as accurate as I can. If you have any info on these things, you can post here or email me offline. I imagine that, depending on how big an area I want to show, my diorama will be about a meter long and 30 cm wide. We'll see.

Great work as always. Your efforts are doing what you set out to do...increase the knowledge out there and bringing ML back as THE research site for this type of information. Looking forward to more.

Rob
