How were AFV's painted?

Looking at the pictures of the Polish StuG below, I got to thiking: does anyone know HOW these vehicles were painted? I would assume spray for the large surfaces, but I know a lot of automotive parts from a similar time period were 'dip' painted, where the part is submerged in a vat of paint to coat it. Just curious, as this would have a substantial effect on the wear characteristics of the paint (dip painted parts are much more prone to chipping and cracking than scratches) as well as some subtle texturing opportunities. If anyone has any infromation, it would be great to discuss. Regards,
justin
