Response to Re: Herbert Elsner's Panther D, autumn 1943.

Hi Cran,

That rain channel over the sight was a June change was it? I seriously have to revise a lot of my thinking then. I only have the Jentz Panther Quest For Combat Supremacy as my guide. If so then that would be consistent with the other features.

As for the roadwheel, I think even if it was 24 bolt spacing it could always be a replacement wheel. I can't work anything out for sure, even on the clearer pic from the book I got the scan from (George Forty's German Tanks of WW2 In Action from 1988) nothing is evident to me, just a lot of mud covering everything on the wheel hehe.

Good guess about the wire for the spare links. I didn't notice that. Again the original picture in the book is a bit clearer but I can't confirm where the wire goes. It does looks like a very thin bit of wire though. But where would the wire then go to? There weren't any attachment points on the Panther D turrets, were there??? I can't see any wire on the turret roof plate.

Were none of the spare links just welded on? I haven't got a clue.

Thanks Cran.
