Hi Jerry,

It does make a lot of sense of course, but Peiper only joined the Panzer Regiment aftter Schönberger was KIA on 20-11-1943, so long after the transfer of men and materiel to the HJ.

By the way, where was the 251-8 Ausf D photo published, I can't recall at the moment.
