Response to Re: Bef.Tiger, May 1943

Grant,

Your correct, only one Bef.Tiger at any given time. The only Tiger to survive Balta and make it to Romania arrived on a transport also carrying a Bef.Pz III and a Pz.Beo.Wg III. The other AFV's on hand consisted of 2 Stugs and 2 Pak.Sfl. The last 3 operational Panzer IV's were all lost on the 31.3.44. The rest were all captured in and around Balta on rail transports, SS-T also abandoned around 1000 wheeled vehicles in Balta as well. The Tigers as stated ended up in Rozdil'na and the rail line was blown up on the orders of a German Army Officer. From Rozdil'na to Tiraspol is about 51 km by train, Rozdil'na was captured on the 4.4.44 by Russian Forces.

Mike
