John,

Yes mine is almost here (from HLJ) so I'll look closely at it when it arrives. I tend to agree with you though, as I have just performed a major crosskit of a Tamiya Pz.IVJ with the DML IVJ Smartkit parts bin in order update it rather than bin it. Now there are some slight dimensional errors in the 1990s Tam kit as compared to the more recent DML series (too-short an upper deck, too shallow a hull height, too-wide a turret), but with some sensitive tweaking and the addition of 2012-era tools and other details, one can still produce a quality model to display in the modern era. Loads of fun too.

I think the Academy kit may be one of those. But as I said, if all else fails I'll use a spare 'bare' DML tub and all the Academy 'late' parts including the wheels, idlers, rundumsfeuer etc in order to create a dimensionally better model. We'll see.
