Hi Mike,

Glad the info is of use, I recently had a 170V cabroliet in my workshop so was able to make comparrisons versus the 170VK kubels I have seen and the 170VK Kubels parts and service books that I have. It was very interesting to be able to do this.

The aerial is never mounted as shown, there is nothing there on which to mount it, its either on the rear side base fitting or on the radio box itself. On the top of the radio box is an aerial mount, which is where the aerial would be mounted if the radio was being carried by an infantryman on his back.

A Kfz 2/2 is a radio vehicle and a Kfz 2/1 is a telephone vehicle, the poles on the side are for a Kfz 2/1, and are two pieces of 2 metre long wooden poles that are then joined together like a fishing rod to be 4 metres long, and have a hook on one end for holding telephone wire as it is reeled out or reeled in from the vehicle, which as a Kfz 2/1 is of course carrying several reels of telephone cabling. Not for a radio vehicle.

A couple of photos that may help, they are factory photos and both of the same radio vehicle, fortunately of both sides, and whislt the aerial base is not fitted to the rear body, its fixing brackets are there. Note; no brackets fitted for the wooden poles on the passenger side body.

The third photo shows one of the two stowage locations for the aerial when not in use, across the top of the rear luggage compartment door, you can see the brackets on the other photos, or inside in some purpose made bracketry (and can never be seen from the outside)
