At lot of people have commented on that camo pattern extending over the welds that hold the fender hinges. I still can't imagine how the paint would get under the welded area unless it was already painted like that before the fenders were welded on. This might explain why they so frequently fell off leaving just the 3 clean weld lines. Have a look at KT photos where the front mudguards are gone and you will almost always never see the remains of the bracket still welded to the hull.
In this photo we see the exact same effect as on 222 where the paint line is under the welded area.
