Hi John

By increasing the contrast you just brought to light the part of the track that was in the shadow. Before it was just... well dark but the details were there, which you see when you lighten it up.
This track must be made of the same gray slate as the roof, since it looks like the same material and color...
I think you indirectly discovered the evidence that it was colorized. The artist forgot this shadow part, it was so dark that he/she took it for black and didnĀ“t bother changing it...
Now it would be cool to get the B&W photo and compare the degree of fit of the gray pixels in this area, juts for sake of scientifical comparison.
