In video n°5 there is an armoured 3,7cm FlaK SdKfz 7_2 seen in Rome..

November 14 2006, 3:33 AM

quite a famous shot, actually, the vehicle is lightly camoed with branches and stands in front of the beautiful landscape of Castel Sant'Angelo (being italian I hope I am not making a mistake here..). A very well known shot.

The crew seems to me to wear tropical LW trousers and caps, yet in the video the comments says it is a vehicle from Leibstandarte.

The 1st SS 'LSSAH' was, in fact briely in Italy during summer 1943, but I am not convinced, to me that vehicle was from a FlaK unit...

Any imput, anybody?

TIA

S!

Hey,

LSSAH did have Sdkfz 7/2's when they were sent to Italy after the end of Kursk. I've got a photo of one of them from the FlaK detachment, it doesn't have the armored cab and the photo was taken during the motorized march through the Austrian region of Tyrol. The photo can be found in Agte's monstrous book on Jochen Peiper.

If you want to see the photo, drop me a line. I also have many other photos of the Sdkfz 7/2.

Kevin

LSSAH in Italy

November 16 2006, 12:24 AM

Hi there,

Actually the photo from Agte that you are referring to is a SdKfz 6-2, taken on the mountain pass, ID'd chiefly by the 8 holes in the outer half-track wheels and the solid inner hub on the front wheels.

I believe that the LSSAH only received 7-2's in the west in 1944, but not 100% on that as yet.

Cheers
Steve

Interested in and researching the vehicles and weapons of the Leibstandarte

No, not in a mountain pass...

November 17 2006, 8:39 AM

it's in the gardens of Castel Sant'Angelo (and you can see it, a BIG round castle on the horizon), the gardens are a flat field (in that area) with sparse low trees, the SdKfz 7 (it's a 7 actually) is on the left of the foto and faces right, is in dark yellow base colour and has some sparse tree branches for camo) has the crew wearing some tropical trousers and schiffchen (caps) that looks as standard Luftwaffe material (very baggy trousers in pale sand colour, appearing nearly off-white when very old and worn).
Anyway, I'll try to find a shot and post it...

TIA!
S!

251/21

November 14 2006, 4:27 AM

Can anyone tell us, where the footage with the 251/21 and the one with the 251/22 column were taken? It looks like Schlesien/Pommern/Oderbruch to me, no snow but early spring still. Cheers Marc
