Placing a siG33 on a Bison I

Just bought Dragon's nicely detailed Bison I (6259) and I would like to dismount the SiG33 gun. How was it normally installed? I have one picture of a crane but would it be possible to pull the gun backwards, adding two bars/U shaped bars from the end of the engine deck to the ground, similar to the Demag SdKfz10 when the flak was removed? And the superstructure should be removed too I guess due to the wheels...?

regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,

All the pics I have show the gun being lifted off, either by a crane, or various make-shift wooden frames with a block & tackle arrangement. That way all you need to do is lift the gun & drive the bison out from underneath, then lower the gun to the ground.
I guess it's theoretically possible to do it the way you suggest, apart from the fact that the fenders, on which your channels would sit, wouldn't take the full weight of the gun.

To answer your other Q, yes the superstructure has to come of either way, as the wheel hubs are wider than the superstructure.

Hope it helps,

Darren.

Turning it lightly

July 4 2009, 12:57 PM

When starting lifting the gun, to avoid the wheel hubs colliding with the superstructure, the gun may turn lightly counterclockwise, because the protrusion on rigth side of the superstructure is nearer to the front than the one on left side (not seen on any kit on the market).

Ah, that's interesting

Perhaps that explains the aspect of this that's always been a bit of a mystery to me, namely that the projections are oval and not circular, whereas the hubs are circular. If the means of moving the gun involved rotating it a bit, that would explain the need for oval projections. Given the difficulties of carrying out maintenance with the gun in place, it seems odd that the whole superstructure would need dismantling to do so and this would allow it to remain in place.

How did you discover this?

I did my plans

July 4 2009, 8:03 PM

After the issue of sIG33 by Alan and before its Bison I, I started a conversion, making my own plans. I assumed both sides were symmetrical. I take calculations from both sides, using the window on top as a point of reference, mixing them. The results were... confusing.
Then I take calculations individually for each side:
Right side
[linked image]
Left side
[linked image]
The numbers are lengths in pixels. Both photos from my collection.
Assuming the length of the side plates is 1.450 m.,
for the right side 1.450*366/906=586 mm.
and left side 1.450*430/993=627 mm.
The difference is only 39 mm.(circa 1 mm. in 1/35 scale) but means that turning counterclockwise the gun, it may exit freely, vertically or horizontally (pushing the tank when the gun hangs from the crane).
Please apologize my poor english.
