Hi all,

I bought a used book yesterday, "CHANNEL ISLANDS OCCUPIED - Unique pictures of the Nazi rule 1940-1945", published in 1972 by Jarold & Sons Ltd.

It has a picture of a 4,7cm Pak(t) auf Panzerkampfwagen 35R(f) in Jersey and the caption mentions 9 vehicles in total on the island.

I wonder if there is other info and/or pics of those vehicles and if a Befehlpanzer für 4,7-cm-Pak (t) auf Panzerkampfwagen 35R(f) was amongst the 9 AFVs?

Here's the picture I'm talking about :

9 of these on Jersey and 10 on Guernsey...

November 22 2009, 12:39 PM

...and 1 one Alderney. These are the numbers for the end of 1942. Following a commando raid on Sark in October 1942, some were even stationed on that island (until November 1943). Apparently the numbers of vehicles on these Islands "fluctuated from time to time". This information is based on 'German armour in the Channel Islands 1940/1945'. These vehicles are illustrated by a photograph taken on Guernsey that shows the same kind of camouflage and Balkenkreuz.

What unit these belonged to is not clear from the book though. According to Axis History it was like this:
- Panzerjäger-Abteilung 319 (11 x 4.7cm Pak (t) auf Geschützwagen R-35 (f); based in Jersey). Basically a generic part of the 319.Inf.Div.
- Schnellen Abteilung 450 (11 x 4.7cm Pak (t) auf Geschützwagen R-35 (f); based in Guernsey) Apparently permanently attached to the division.

Hope this helps.

Niels

Thank you, this is most useful info, I just ordered the book you mentioned (although it's entitled "'German armour in the Channel Islands 1941/1945").

Cheers,

Christophe

you're right, it's indeed 1941/1945

The first "Panzers" were FT-17 tanks and were delivered early sommer 1941. The small booklet is well worth the read.

Hi Christophe,
Slightly off-topic but could you tell me if this book also contains info on and pics of Siebel ferries (Siebelfähren)?
