The Dragon Stupa mid with zimm, offers two choices for the LHS of the gun cradle. See the images on Hobbysearch.
Does anybody know what the difference between the two is?

Brummbar

November 20 2011, 6:56 AM

Hello Marc, I have not had time to go through my referrence books on the Brummbar but from my memory I can tell you the gun design was overhauled during and after the series two production to save weight.

The series one (Kursk) Brummbars were plagued by front end weight problems so when the series two was built they re-designed the gun to safe weight which they achieved but it wasnt enough hence the design of the series four (late Brummbar).

The model you are referring to is a series three which should really have the modified gun (I think its the bottom option) as by this time they had already exploited any weight saving on the first designed Brummbars and were re-designing the fighting compartment for the series four.

I think the reason they give you the option is because many parts of the guns were interchangeable and guns were often cobbled together to keep vehicles operational.

I do not know which unit you intend to depict but be mindful the two main users of mixed versions of the Brummbar were Sturmpanzer Abteilung 216 and 217. 216 had a wide variety of series one (modified to two), series two and series three and fought in Italy.

217 mainly had series three and series four (early) but they did have some series two and one (modified), I have seen first hand and photographic evidence of guns being cobbled together by this unit in Normandy.

I hope this helps if I have time I will try and clarify the later gun configuration but dont hold you breath Im still trying to make a space for some modelling.

Dean

Thanks Dean!

Thanks for the info,

I'd like to build a vehicle on the Eastern front, but I don't think St Pz Abt 216 had series 3 vehicles before being stationed in Italy. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Alternatively I'll build a vehicle from 216 in Italy.

best regards,

No

216 did fight in the east but only during and after Kursk with series one Brummbar.

My advice for a series three, stick to Italy and Normandy with 216 or 217, I can't remember which options you get in the kit but I'm sure both are catered for.

For your information the Dragon kit is excellent, I have thirteen of them in various guises but stay away from the series two with zimmerit, this kit

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Sd-Kfz-Stu-Pz-Brummbar-Zimmerit/dp/B003UOO2XE/ref=sr_1_7?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1321809080&sr=1-7

It has an incorrect roof as well as other incorrect details, the kit is very good but if you don't know how to correct it to an accurate re-worked series one it will never be right regardless of how many incorrect reviews are written about it.

Good luck with your build, its my favorate vehicle.

Dean

Thanks again, Italy it is

November 20 2011, 1:00 PM

Thanks again Dean,

I'll do a autumn/ winter scene in Italy.
Actualy the version you linked to is my favorite Stupa version. Do you have a summary of the corrections needed to make it into a actual reworked series 1?

Thanks again!

best regards,

Marc Brandes
