Planetary final drives

In some sources (like Spielberger) it is claimed that a bottleneck in the supposed availability of gear-cutting machines capable of machining internal teeth required for the fixed gearwheels of planetary gearing prevented the Panther from having these stronger final drives. Question us that did any designer/man-in-power suggest using Farman-type (bevel) planetary gearing? The Farman-type does not need gearwheels with internal teeth.

Maybe it was just the German way.

I don't really know the answer, Germans always over engineer everything and perhaps it was a matter of pride to not divert from specific engineering norms. I know that they were very dogmatic about silly things sometimes, like sending a tank back to the factory because the leather of the drivers seat wasn't the correct spec. I kid you not.
