No, this is incorrect.

The Tamiya kit used slide moulds as well. It's the only way to get that kind of detail on sides perpendicular to the main pull of the mould. Just about any kit with detail on three perpenducular sides has used a slide mould.

The marketing magic that they spread around about this "new" slide mould technology is nonsense. Slide moulds have been around for a loooong time and are very, very common in moulding circles. It just costs more money, that's all.
