You will also see them on British contract Shermans including the M4A1 76. They were part of the specification to the manufacturer. DML even added this to their M4A1 76 Cobra kit. By the time most of those vehicles entered service in NWe the need was no longer their but the brackets were. Some units removed them but many left them in place.
