Based on a post earlier I was looking at the various photos on the G503 website. While looking I ran across one on this page;
My question concerns the third photo down. It appears to be a well sandbagged M4A3, probably from the 14th Armored Div or another Seventh Army units from the steel framing structure for the sandbags. From the mantlet it appears to me to be an M4A3 with 105mm howitzer. What's going on in the photo? At first I thought it was a welding repair, but on second look I wonder if we are seeing a recharging/refuelling of a bow-mounted flamethrower. Note the unusual framing on the glacis - perhaps to keep things away from a flame gun? We have two gas cylinders but also a 55-gallon drum with a hose leading into the BoG hatch. If so, it's something that doesn't often show up in photos. Opinions? Comments?
