Page 60 of Vanguard of Victory....David Fletchers book on the history of the 79th A/D shows a very similar arrangement.
Quote....."G Wing which was established on the banks of the Maas dealt with the problems of large scale river crossing. Their most effective device took the form of a carpet of logs connected by wire, which was supported on rails on a Buffalo. The amphibian laid its mat as it climbed ashore on the farther bank and this provided grip for the DD tanks to climb over."
