Stuart tail lights?

Am building Academy M3A1 Stuart. This is my first AFV kit (will confess to being new to armor).

On the back end of the tank, just above the rear fenders, there are two 'tail-lights', one on either side. Are these actual tail-lights? Or brake-lights?
Should they be painted any particular color? Gloss or dull finish? Instructions no help.

Thank you in advance!

It is both...

and a blackout marker as well. When the tank's headlights are on (service drive) the tail lights work just like a car. The half moon shaped one lights up like and gets brighter when the brakes are applied. The lower bar looking light work when the lights are in the blackout drive mode. Half moon should be painted dark red, bar one is gloss black. Here is a bad picture I took of one:

Taillights

Glenn-
This photo should answer your question. The upper left lense is red glass. The others are clear plastic with black background. The upper left is the service stop and taillight. The upper right is the blackout stop light. Both lower lenses are blackout taillights. This taillight setup was standard on all WWII US vehicles, Harley to Dragon Wagon. HTH. Randy

Cool picture. I see that the tank is in some kind of garage, WHO DO YOU KNOW??? Is the other vehicle a Toyota for 'Mom'? Lucky Guy.
