If the sprues are already done...

April 13 2006, 2:53 PM

...then the release date should be very close right?? I am not a huge fan of French armor but the Char B is a cool looking tank, will have to get one of these (and a reference book or two). Looks like you won't need after-market tracks. Thanks for posting the pics!
Have a good one,
Alan

C'est sucre comme du miel!! N'est pas? Sorry if I botched that and actually called all French modelers a frosty sewer pipe or something. Two years of college French many, many years ago.

That looks great - can't wait to get one!!! And...

April 13 2006, 3:46 PM

... did you see? They included a tank commander figure.

The tracks look good as well, as do the chains. At least a Tamiya kit with - at least for me - no need for aftermarket stuff.

Cheers,

Peter

'Gimme Gimme Gimme a Char after Midnight'

April 13 2006, 4:41 PM

'Won't somebody help me chase the Panzers away!'

That's what ABBA would have written if they were still together !!

Fantastic news and a credit to Tamiya that they are dong an original subject that has been too long ignored. Wonder if they will do a Char B with the APX1 turret to follow?

Is a set of French Tank Crew and infantry too much to hope for?

Dragon can continue keeping my German craving under control, AFV Club have me knawing my fingernails in anticipation of the Centurion, but the Char B1 bis to me is like vintage Moet to a thirsty Legionnaire !

Bravo Tamiya, O la la, and 2006 is shaping ut to be a very happy year indeed.

Oh Me, Oh My. I must have one!

April 13 2006, 4:54 PM

Wow, going by the sprues, and how fast the Stug IIIB appeared on shelves after it was announced, I'd say this thing may be here in just a month or two at most! Those sprues really do look production ready, as opposed to the Academy M3 Medium which had obvious missing and unfinished portions. And is it just me, or are those tracks in a fine shade of Modelkasten Brown? I wonder if Tamiya did the tracks themselves or is outsourcing them? (and if they DID outsource to MK, perhaps it is the beginning of a wonderful new friendship between them?). The metal chains are a nice touch too.

I really can't wait for this one, I'd always ranked this tank toward the top of my favorites. Right up there next to the M3 Mediums. I'm going to have such a wonderful year.

Wheels!

April 13 2006, 4:57 PM

It even includes the road wheels, something none of the resin kits had. I wonder what the price will be on this one? Might have to get it early from Rainbow Ten!

I should have alternate Decals by the release date

April 13 2006, 5:20 PM

Hi All,
This is one of my all-time favorites. As such, Decalcomaniacs! should have a set of alternate markings for this beast by the time the kit is available in the U.S. Drop me an email if you are interested.
Regards,
Georg

PS- This NOT a pre-order! I'm just gauging interest.

I can see getting a couple

April 13 2006, 8:48 PM

Though not a fan of French armor the paint scheme is hard to pass on. Plus I think the boy could tackle the Tamiya version easier than some other maker. And i know he'll want one too. Its a welcomed addition to the Allied camp.
Now where are the Lees?

Has anyone got a pic?

April 14 2006, 8:17 AM

There was a pic posted of a Char B ko'd or abandoned on the Axis DG a while ago, it had a great cammo. Did anyone happen to save it? If so please would you send it to me?

I saved it onto my hard drive but my computer packed up and it was not labelled Char B so a search won't find it.

Thanks,
Roger

Enough with the Char B1 Bis already!

April 14 2006, 8:49 AM

Geez! All this excitement over an oversized, underpowered and godawfully ugly pressing iron really is annoying to say the least. Now can we get back to modeling serious subjects like... like... like the Sherman, of course!

Just kidding guys!

I'm really glad and impressed that Tamiya would go for such a subject, even though I am very unlikely to get one (although I must say it does look good in an ugly sort of way). I must commend Tamiya for its marketing policy: pick subjects that others are unlikely to cover (Leclerc, Char B1, etc.) and keep them under wraps until ready for distribution. I just hope they continue this practice in the future and treat us to yet more unlikely subjects while others battle it out over Pz IV's, Flak guns and Sdkfz halftracks (do I hear Citroen 11CV?).

Kind of a "If you can't compete, don't" attitude...

Cheers, and happy Char B modeling!

Charby you're just peeved because.....

April 14 2006, 9:57 AM

....when they named this tank after you they spelt your name incorrectly. But does this mean that you think you're "an oversized, underpowered and godawfully ugly pressing iron ... to say the least". I think you're being a bit hard on yourself. LOL .

Cheers from Down Under

Pictures??? - Links???

April 14 2006, 3:40 PM

How many Char B fans are there? Enought to crash the site?
Can't get the link http://maquette-garden.forumactif.com/viewtopic.forum?p=16619#16619 to work for anything.
http://maquette-garden.forumactif.com appears to be down???
Or is there some French magic word to get in?

Can you paste a picture in an email so avoid the broken links?

Thanks for the images, for alternative Markings and camouflages...

April 14 2006, 9:52 PM

...Well... I've been getting the information about this kit since late last year and have been gearing up for decals - many thanks to Marc Genaux, now we know what markings Tamiya is providing (on the sheet). Therefore, alternative markings will be also coming from Echelon FD - and as usual, full colour guides for other wonderful alternative camos.

Just a small announcement...

Yes, I want one too! Finish one and get another! Hurray for Tamiya for providing us another "high"!
