B1 track skirt material? (warning: "bootleg" photo inside)

Was it made of rubber or cloth?

This part does not to appear to have survived on any museum examples, like "rhone" linked to here on the char-francais site:

Trackstory photos suggest that it is a heavy cloth or rubber with eyelets along the bottom (maybe on the top too, in order to allow it to fit either side?) Tamiya's box art (reproduced here without permission from Mr. Tamiya) suggests it was rubber, while Trackstory's color plates show it painted (I think this would be incorrect in at least the primered example) But does anyone know for sure?

Not really

See, the mudflap extends down to the level of the track with little to none of the wheels showing:

Your museum example is also missing this feature:

Remnants

June 29 2006, 10:29 PM

I think what Jose is saying is that there were "remnants" of the mudflaps still attached to the tanks he examined and that these pieces appeared to be rubber.

You are right, however, that most of the flap is missing, revealing the wheels. One suspects that these didn't last long in active service.

Has anyone compared the photos of the Char B in French usage with the tanks reused by the Germans. Are the mudflaps still intact?

From his underside photo, it would appear that there was an inner mudflap as well.

hth,
mike

Still, not really

July 1 2006, 7:39 AM

That "remnant" apprears on other museum examples and is probably a metal attachment point or brace.

No worries, rubber is a safe guess.

Good Thing It Comes in Allied Colors

July 1 2006, 1:19 PM

Because, if Mr. T had tried to dress it up in German livery, the Dark Side would have decided to sh##can the whole kit.

The kit mudflaps are obviously waaaay too thick for any 'real' kit builder to live with. ;-]

As long as it has closed sponsons, Allied guys can live with most anything.

Now where did I put my plastic card?

Happy Modelling!
mike
