Most of my construction is done, but I have a few detail oriented questions:
1. As a "commonwealth" tank, should it have that little first aid box on the right rear instead of spare track holders, as, for example, most Sherman III and V have? Or is it elsewhere, or not there at all?
2. Were the spare track holders used for spare tracks (some pics of built models I've seen have ammo boxes welded [?] onto them instead).
3. Was the flying cow a tank or unit insignia?
4. I assume the tank should be good ole OD, not Scc 15, yes?
5. I plan to do the white countershading under the barrel...should the part above the countershading be OD or some other color?
6. Was the hull rear rack, common on US M4A1/A3, used, or was that British style (that comes with the DML A4) used in its place?
7. Was the rear turret stowage bin, as from the A4, ALWAYS used, and, if so, how was it attached?

#4 Yes it should be plain old US OD. They wouldn't re-paint unless it went through some major rebuild or overhaul.
#6 The rear shelf should be in place, you can't use the long rear British stowage bin as it would get in the way of the hand crank hole on the rear overhang.
#7 I think I've only seen one turret stowage box mounted on a Commanwealth M4A1 76mm. So I'd go without it.
You'll find many Polish Sherman IIa , some used in near unmodified conditions, other with welded boxes, spare tracks and so one.
Amongts them, you'll find some pics of Sherman IIa with the long rear stowage box (like the M4A4) with an ammunition box on each side in place of the spare tracks holders and a rear turret box (like the M4A4).
I've only seen the flying cow on Lt Wiatrovski's tank (2nd Polish Armoured Regiment HQ squadron)

Hello Rob,
You can find a lot of polish Sherman stuff on "shermanoholicus" discussion forum at: http://www.shermany.webd.pl/forum/index.php
Yes, it is polish language site but do not hesitate to use English
Fascinating! Some nice work there, and lots of pics. Just what I needed, though, as is always the case with research, some pics open up new questions just as I'm about to start painting my model! Oh well. Thanks again, really great stuff.

A lot of the pictures of the real thing are from the Sherman II-book

A lot of the pictures of the real tanks in action are scans from "Polskie Shermany II" from Wydawnictwo Militaria or copies/scans of the same pictures from other sources. This book is unbeatable when it comes to Polish Shermans!
Check out the Jadar Hobby website and make an advanced search for "Sherman" under "Books". There is plenty!!
