Response to More Likely

They aren't for IFF....Canada has the only tanks in Afghanistan being used operationally.

None of the Leopard C2s in Afghanistan have any type of callsigns applied...this is for tactical security to not permit the Timmys knowing tank Troop strengths in a certain area. The chemlights are likely for visibly denoting individual tanks or tank Troops while conducting operations at night.

An aircraft or helicopter supporting the ground troops will not be able to see the chemlights...if they can't see the tank a chemlight in an empty water bottle ain't gonna help.

The Canadian Leopards, Coyotes, and LAV IIIs all have excellent thermal sights...but the non visible chemlights are IR and won't be detected by thermal.
