Andy,
Some are now monument tanks while others have been upgraded into M1A2SEPs My guess is that the M1A2/SEP upgrades were primarily conducted on the 894-ish M1IPs, which already had the longer turrets and were out of active and Reserve/National Guard service in the early-mid 90's. I do remember that the first couple of battalions of M1A2s were conversions. Those original M1A2 battalions were upgraded in 2006/2007 to M1A2SEPs. I would like to do the research one of these days to definitively find out the true story of where all of the tanks really went over the past 30 or so years...
