...we should avoid questions that might piss-off some of the older members of these fora. Must permission be asked? Must the questions be vetted prior to their being posted? And, by whose leave are we to be permitted to ask a question?
Not posting a question (no matter if it can be Googled in seconds, or not) just because we fear the reactions of some members, sounds just a bit odd to me.
Just because a member of these fora provides information, that member has absolutely no right to become abusive in tone or content. Providing information does not allow exemption from common courtesy, never mind this web-site's rules. No matter how much info, no matter how many times the info is posted, doing so guarantees no special rights.
Nothing against you Ed, but you are defending a person who is notorious for his "special ways". Simply check the various fora over the last week or so. The pattern that emerges is all-too-familiar and none-too-welcome. Maybe you know the guy personally and think he's a swell egg. More power to you!
