I almost missed you question as it was so far down the page.
Here's a partial list:
Fire extingisher handle: (Exhaust pipe is inside exhaust outlet-not visible)Don't forget to fill the sponsons on both sides.

Cast on serial numbers:

Torsion springs on all hatches:

Top hatch too short, should be lengthened: (I still need to replace the rubber dust shield over the hatch)

When I built this, there was no photo etch available for it. The kit doesn't really need it, although I replaced the screens with some railroad stuff that happened to have the right pattern:

These are just basic corrections. I somehow did not upload the lightening holes in both the drive sprocket and idler, but don't forget those. If you want more than basic, you might as well do these:

Ah, you might as well remove the tow shackles and then replace them for a better look, as above.

And these:

Finally, those large lifting lugs are often seen on Merkavas. I took them off of some old WWII Soviet tank.

Incredible...

July 5 2009, 1:56 PM

I remember when you were still building on that Merkava...must have been at least twelve (12) years ago and before there was much reference material. I have yet to find a model to match it.

In fact, I have recently come close to finishing a Merkava Mk.1 and made a feeble attempt at doing the battery box like you did, just not as convincingly.

Inspirational work, Robert.

Allen

tweaks Mk.1 & Mk.2

July 5 2009, 8:50 PM

Hi guys,
re Tweaks ...Create small gaps between the turret & armour panels, the kit is a bit too neat.
Telephone box -- check depth of telephone box on rear -- they are not as deep as the kit part -- & handle for box.

Academy kit, part C22 -- whatever it is, can find no data to support it being on anything but early versions of Mk.1 (it was not so square & upright either).

Casting numbers & anti-slip on hull & turret -- best to apply, then sand it down to scale (PE is good).

Exhaust outlets -- all Mk.1s it's on the LHS behind the extinguisher handle with the pipe just protruding on some. Some have a thin rim with or without a weld-bead.

Also an exhaust-pipe (not protruding) on RHS near the front (auxillary motor?). On early Mk.2 (no extra turret armour) the same.

Academy provide a decal for the extinguisher square but you could make it 3-dimensional.

(Sources -- Concord #1001 "Israel's Armour Might" & War Data #10)

cheers Ray
