Something wrong with the Bronco ZTZ-99A1?

I nearly finnished my Bronco ZTZ-99A1 kit. I compared it to some of the available side views. I noticed that the proportions between the hull and the turret donīt match somehow.
If you take the tie down straps of the fuel tanks on the fenders and compare them to some points on the turret they donīt line up and in some corners they are even way off.

Until now I donīt have a clue where the error is. Maybe the turret is too long, too short, turret ring misplaced, etc.

I donīt have the photoshopping abilities and a good photo editing program to show it.

If thereīs a talented person for that job, contact me by mail and I will help out with some pictures of my model and some of the original.

Thomas

The turret ring is set too forward...

February 26 2010, 8:40 PM

placing the turret too back in the hull.

Some pictures from another thread:

I intend to cut the turret ring -first with a scriber and then a pe saw- and then glue it back in the correct location.
As itīs a hidden area itīs still a open possibility to you if you donīt mind the extra work.

Regards

No...

February 27 2010, 3:56 AM

...that is not the whole problem. If I move the turret a little forward, what I would do if I place the turret ring backwards, it lines up much better, but then the turret underside and the main gun reaches the drivers hatch which is also wrong. It seems, the main gun is also installed too far forward and the ERA blocks, too. Or their angles are wrong.

Armorama

March 1 2010, 12:35 AM

A post on Armorama from an Asian writer claimed that the Bronco kit is based on the hull dimensions of the ZTZ-96, which makes the hull undersized, as the ZTZ-99 is larger overall. The attached photos showed the Bronco hull to be smaller than the Hobby Boss version. I have no idea whose version is accurate, but you might want to look over the images for yourself.

The Bronco kit is only a fraction shorter than the Hobbyboss kit. In the same series of pictures a side by side comparison of the two hull parts were posted too. The ZTZ-96 is significantly shorter than the ZTZ-99. You can diferenciate these two tanks by the roadwheel spacing.

The error is somewhere in the turret design.
