RMP Defender Radios

I an in the processing of building the Hobbyboss Land Rover Defender Hardtop as a vehicle used by the Royal Military Police. I imagine that these vehicles would be equipped with a communications radio, so as I am a bit rusty on certain modern British Army equipment, where would it be mounted and what time of radio would be used?

Thanks for any help.

Regards

Grahame

Depends

Garham,

Anything pre-2005 and I'd suggest the Clansman would be appropriate (most common).

Anything post 2005 would likely be Bowman.

Can't help with specific internal arrangements, but the aerials tend to be in the same place on the exterior for either system.

The HB kit offers the Clansman 'box' on the wing but it needs replacing as it is too small.

My recent Hardtop post in the CC forum shows a more recent Bowman mount.

Hope that helps,
John

Thanks for your advice. I was wondering if the either of these radios would be small enough to mount in the cab? I didnt realise that the aerial mount in the Hobbyboss kit was too small!

Regards

Grahame

Not in the cab

Graham,

Both Clansman and Bowman units are fitted in the rear cargo area. You might get a mike/speaker located in the cab but the 'boxes' are all fitted behind the bulkhead so wouldn't really be visible in the kit. If you have them spare, you could use the racking found in the WMIK kit (parts E18) for a Clansman vehicle. They further help to hide what's in the back (unless you have the rear door open of course happy.gif )

Regards,
John
