Have you considered cutting the track above & below the front road wheel, then inserting a few links of scratchbuilt track ? It's polystyrene, so no cementing issues, and the upper/lower joints would be hidden by the triangular trackguard & road wheel respectively. I should add that I've not seen the kit in the flesh, as it were.

I'm pleased to see Airfix release a new-tooled AFV kit and, like you, most people seem to think the Cromwell a pretty decent effort.
