Feel my pain . . . Dragon's T34/85 Model 1944 (pics).

I really liked the kit but those road wheels . . . I just had to drill them out. First, I split each road wheel in half, sanded each back half flat then proceeded to drill out the holes. After that I glued them back together with a spacer of styrene in between each half.

I drilled and installed grab handles with brass wire. External gas cans had the ends redone. Added the casting texture on the turret with an engraving tool.

Oh, yeah . . . turned my own 85mm gun barrel from the kit sprue as the kit barrel looked way too small.

Oh, lessons learned . . . don't use ProWeld on DS tracks. I did and they virtually melted at the attachment points. Should have used super glue instead. So I plan to use a set of length and link tracks from an Eastern Express kit.

Best regards,
Kent Kirkpatrick

I only hope someday someone will produce a pack of aftermarket T-34 Wheels, Gasoline drums and engine grilles.

Btw. what diameter did you use for the handles ?

Yep, i did mine..

I don`t see the point of splitting the wheels it just seems to be making work for yourself.
However, i did mine by hand (drill in pin vise) as i thought that a motor tool may split or melt the plasic. Holding each one in my hand, i drilled from the inside and then the outside. Do not attempt to go staight through both as the holes may be missaligned.
It took me about half an hour whilst watching a world cup game on the TV. But a word of warning, watch your fingers!

If you want to do it right . . . and look good . . .

. . . splitting the wheel WAS necessary because I tried to do it without but the molded spacer causes the drill bit to scrue at an angle. This cause the potential of going through the back half incorrectly. It may be more work to do but you can't beat the results.

Otherwise, you can leave them alone or take a chance of leaving them whole and hope you punch through the back half in the proper place.

Best regards,
Kent Kirkpatrick
