I am very happy to show that this is almost finished. The only things I need are the cables and the tracks.
I will use tea bag strings for cables and my last frame of Italeri L & L tracks for this special vehicle.
My question: I have seen pictures of this vehicle with 50 cal machine guns. Most are on the turret (some on the hull). But I really don't know where and what the mount looks like. Help anyone? Thanks for your comments and help.
Looking good Albert ...... theres a lot of hard work gone into that, cant wait to see it finished! On the .50cal I'd go with your own intstinct on whether to mount one or not unless depicting an actual vehicle. It probably wasnt a common mod but I know I'd feel a bit safer to have some sort of weapon on board.
I dont have the time so I'm hoping to get the pre-built Milicast version for my NZ unit. They flogged one from the Americans in Italy around Cassino I believe .......
Great build so far. As for the 50 cal, there are a couple of interesting pictures in the Concord "US Armored Funnies" book. It looks like they put them wherever the crew welded the mount. There are two pictures of M31's with an improvised M36 ring mount on top of the turret (but the 50 isn't mounted on it). Then there are four other pictures with 50's carried on M31's. Two of them appear to be on tube mounts welded to the back of the turret, the third looks to be mounted on the upper hull to the right of the turret, and the fourth is on a pedestal mount on the right front fender.

Albert,
thats nice work.
I have no answer on the 50 cal but instead of the tea strings I would suggest
"Karaya" braided copper cable in 0.4 mm. I used this and some 0.7 mm sizes
on a M728 CEV I did a few years ago and it worked great. I know it is available
from Air Connection in Canada.
Are you coming to AMPS in two weeks, hope to see you and this kit there.
The machine guns were all mounted on extemporized mountings. These crews had easy access to welding gear. Most were not armed, but for the ones that were - check out photos.
work there Albert: As for the .50 I believe it was the WREVR-A1 mount!! LOL
I have used bead jewelry braided wire for cable it usually comes
with a nylon coating that I burn off with a lighter and after that it
also looks well used!

I think I will leave it without the MG, because I need to start my new Sherman funnies project. I don't know when I will stop and start painting. I will post some pics as I progress. Thanks for you comments.
