Challenger 2 woes

You would have thought that with 3 models (if you count the Forces of Valour model) Someone would have been able to produce a decent kit !! The Dragon Kit has both problems with the Hull and Turret, the Forces of valour has similar problems but the hull is better and now comes the Trumpeter kit, which admittedly has some problems with the hull but at least the proportions are better, but the turret !! it looks like someone has squashed it with it being 2mm to low, this makes the front plates too long. That said it is the best of a bad bunch. I will do a full round up on "ontheway" showing a corrected turret, which although ruined now by a very bad paint from a can job, shows where the faults are.

On the plus side I have managed to fix my airbrush, luckily I had a correct sized tap to redo the screw thread so at least I can paint again.

Simon.

Hi Simon

April 8 2007, 7:27 AM

I've just bought the Trumpeter Chally 2's, and I have to say they do look better than the Dragon offering, I didn't know the turret was wrong. Would I be abe to build a Chally 2 using the Dragon turret with the Trumpeter kit?

For an out of the Box Challenger 2

Trumpeter is by far the best bet, unfotunately there is no easy fix for this one other that rebuilding the Dragon turret to fit a Trumpeter hull. The trumpeter turret is the best and has all the right details but is squashed (for want of a better word) it is the best looking of the three.

Regards,
Simon

P.S to answer your question, The Dragon Turret has serious shape issues at the rear.

The yellow line is the level the rear side should be, From top to bottom they are
Forces of Valour
Dragon
Modified Dragon (with a god awful painting disaster)
Trumpeter

Hi Simon

April 9 2007, 4:11 AM

Have you tried to strip the piant with brake fluid, I havn't tried this but apparently it works well, it will strip it back to bare plastic and doesn't damage the it.

Too much of a coward !!

April 9 2007, 7:18 AM

is the main reason why I haven't tried to strip the paint of yet, that and the anti-slip texture is also neat acrylic paint sprayed, as can be seen in the pic below

I did manage to make a sort of mould but have been unsuccessful in actually getting a complete one out

Still there are a few things that I would like to change so I think that I will start from scratch again on a new turret.

If anyone want to volunteer to cast it

Regards,
Simon.
