Maco will release a Track set for PzKpfWg III and IV including a complete set of Ostketten and a complete set of Winterketten, wich will able to build any P.III or P.IV inclusive Hummels/Nashorn with these tracks. They will be moulded from plastic(no short-run!!!) in high quality (like the SWS tracks). I just have the 3D print made of resin, and I am very impessed by the quality, witch will be much higher in plastic.
I tested the Ostkette on different driving wheels from different manufacturers.
Here it is on Dragons P.IV, the tracks fit with minor rework:
This is Dragons StuG III chassis with its driving wheel; it works with a little more extra work:
Next I bend the tracks of the Revell P.III/Hummel running gear... and it fits perfect! I know, what my next Hummel will look like...
Just for fun I tested the wheel from HobbyBoss' Munischlepper, but this test failed: the tooth of it seemed to be to different in comparison with the other manufacturers.
Finally I bring the tracks on Trumpeters Brummbär(here I need help, is the driving wheel similar to the Trumpy Jagdpanzer/StuG IV ones?), and it works well with a little extra work on the tooths:
And here the bad news: the track sets will come only as a limited edition, so hurry up guys...
Cheers
Christian

Hi, Christian, you save my day!!!!!!
AT LEAST somebody got the brilliant idea of made Winterketten (and too usual links) for German AFVs. I'll buy a dozen!!
And thanks too for the test, quite useful!
Wooooooooooooow, though my budget will be low I'll be a happy modeler.
Where can I order them from? How much will they be? What is the postage to UK?
I have at least 5 PzIV projects lined up and these tracks will be just right for at least 2 of them, many thanks for doing what a lot of PzIV fans have been after. Why a limited edition? If it proves popular would it be extended?
Sorry for so many questions, but this is exciting news.
Paul, I'm sorry but I have no idea about the price. I think it will be affordable, we talk about MACO not about Dragon. Remember, there will be three complete track sets a pack.
I don't know the rules of contribution, but I think you'll buy them at www.mc-modellbau.de
Hi again, Christian.
In my excitation I forgot to say that indeed the sprocket wheel seen first in Brümmbar is the same too in StuG. IV and Jdg.Pz. IV. Shame of HB Munitionsschlepper...
Oh, where would us to buy these gems and when? I need A DOZEN! (not a joke).
This is the resin test shot, only a 3D-model. I belive Maco is doing the mould now, it could last a few weeks, I will be lucky about january, but I couldn't say something more exactly.
Which 3 track Sherman types should they do if they are listening?
My Vote would be ...
T48 Rubber Chevron with Duckbills (Think BoB Germany)
T49 Metal Chevron with Duckbill (think Iwa Jima) &
either T54E1 with Duckbills too
or if one has to be a non Duckbill, WE210 "I".
I agree that "Duckbilled" tracks in plastic should be a dream come true. Agree too that T54E1 would be a must, not only seen in Iwo and Okinawa but also a lot in Europe. T48 of course for M4A3E2s "Dumbos" and other US and Commonwealth tanks. And extended T49 are seen mainly too in Commonwealth vehicles, though are feasible for US tanks.
And why not "Double Duckbilled" T54E1 for M4E1 or post-war vehicles? Oh, dear, what a dream...
I'd admire your approach in addressing this neglected segment of the market.
I'd like to add my support for a sherman track-pack, although I suspect there's scope/demand for both the rarer tracks types and the more 'common' types.
Could I ask about the limited production run - is this to test the market?
