Wow that is bad! A couple of options

February 24 2011, 5:47 PM

I have not had to do this but a friend (Mark D.) has had this problem in the past and he successfully stretched the tracks to the appropriate length. They kept their new length and went on with no problems. I recieved some faulty PZ IV tracks in the Dragon Brummbar kit. I e-mailed pictures to Dragon Cares and within a week I got new tracks. You may want to send your pics to Dragon Cares and get replacements.

Dave is right...

I had this same problem with this model, and I even showed it to Freddie Leung. I clamped the tracks on one end and clamped a weight on the other end and hung them up for about a week. By that time, they'd stretched to the proper length and went on fine. I had no shrinkage after they were installed either.

Odd...

You didn't tell us which kit you have but it looks like 7376.

This reviewer built it up without a problem:

Your track seems to have fewer links than a Tiger would normally have. Are both runs of track the same length?

Hi David

Yes both runs have the same length. The kit is the #7370.

By the way, very nice job with you Tiger.

Still odd...

There's a build-up here and the tracks seem OK:

I will notify Dragon that they may have a manufacturing problem, but getting a replacement is up to you.

Re: Dragon Tiger I early tracks too short

So I stretched the runs, superglued the joints and forced it into position.

But it was a little distorted by the tension, so following the advice from Rob Fraser, I moved the idlers slight forward. And it ends like this

Recently I worked on Dragon Stug III and the tracks are spot-on. Who knows...

That looks fine.

I'm glad it worked out OK. Keep us posted on the build.

Has anyone else this problem?

I'm not clear on whether the DS shrank, or the tracks were actually cut shorter than intended. They seem to have 92 links in your photo, and a Tiger should have about 99. But I don't have other copies of the kit to compare with, and in any case the tracks are likely molded entire rather than cut.

Yes, the idler wheel was the track tension mechanism on a Tiger, and could be set up to 30 degrees from vertical. http://tiger1.info/EN/TrackTension.html
