Italeri kits from the 1970s were often excellent kits - finely detailed, well engineered and still capable of holding their own against 21st Century releases. They were far better than most of the Tamiya releases of the same period - Italeri went a bit downhill in the 1980s.
I refer to kits like the Panzer I and Pz I Befehlswagen, Kubelwagen, Schwimmwagen, Jeep, M101 Howitzer, Opel Blitz, GMC Truck and M47 Patton (an outstanding kit even by today's standards) for example.
Almost as good are kits like the Elephant, Puma, Leopard 1A4, M13/40, Semovente, Hetzer and M7 Priest.
Are they perfect? - of course not, but then neither are some very recent releases. They are fine kits that benefit from some additional work and maybe some aftermarket parts (just like most 'modern' kits).
In short, don't dismiss a kit purely on the basis of its age - you'll be missing some gems.
