Response to Will they ever learn?

Right now the US Army wants to shut down the Lima, OH tank plant because they don't want to spend any money on new tanks (actually rebuilds) because they don't need them. They want to mothball it until they have a new tank they want to build.

The problem is that the workers there will have to find other jobs and basically the tank manufacturing expertise will evaporate. No skilled workers will be around to resume production when they want to make the new tank.

Of course, the lawmakers from that district want to keep the plant operational from a job standpoint for their constituents.

It's one of those big bucks decisions; keep it operating and build tanks we don't want or need or shut it down and then in 5-10 years try to stand the plant back up hoping that there is enough expertise remaining to successfully produce new tanks.
