In our hobby, I run across some commonly mis-used or misspelled words (and I don't mean ARMOR vs. ARMOUR)
TURRENT (turret)
Battle of the BULDGE (Bulge)
Gun BREACH (breech)
JADGPANZER (Jagdpanzer)
FRUILMODEL (Friulmodel)
ITALERY, and other permutations (Italeri or the older form, Italerei)

Jack Bauer too...
June 10 2008, 12:10 PM
Did you notice that on "24" a few seasons ago Jack Bauer started to pronounce "nucular". He had pronounced it properly in earlier seasons. What does that mean? Is it a way to show support for the current adminstration?

German phrases
June 7 2008, 5:44 AM
I always react when I see German terms spelt incorrectly, altering their meaning completely. My favourite is Liebstandarte AH instead of Leibstandarte AH.
In German, Liebstandarte would mean something like Loveregiment (Liebe=love, lieben=to love). The Loveregiment Adolf Hitler... Well, it doesn't make sense but has a weird, almost absurd Summer of love-1960's-hippie ring to it.
I have to admit that I'm a bit of a language nerd, but I guess once a teacher, always a teacher.

if l make to manny, or is it many mistakes in english, may l speak in dutch, want dat is veel makkelijker voor mij, maar of dat voor jullie zo is? german is also optional ich spreche das auch aber schreiben ist nicht einfach lol

Wich?
June 8 2008, 7:40 PM
Which and witch are English words. Wich is not. Which refers to a choice among two or more items (German: welche). A witch is a woman who has made a pact with the devil to get magical powers (German: Hexe) or in more modern times, a member of the neo-pagan Wicca religion.

Re: Vocabulary check: commonly misused words

Muzzel break as previously mentioned is my ultimate horror and next comes restauration. And I don't know why but Marquette instead of Maquette always makes me cringe.

l wonder.....
June 8 2008, 9:19 AM
l do see the humor in some of the mentioned writing mistakes, but most of them are like "you have one rivet to much on your turret"....
l wonder if you really get anoyed by these mistakes?
l learned that it is cupola instead op copula, but to be honest: a-l write it like this for years and you know what l mean, and b-l am dutch so english is not my native language, and although it is not my native language l think l can make myself clear right?
...was meant to bash you guys whose first language is something other than English. If we had to speak something other than English, I couldn't participate.

At Blast-Models.com website if you choose the german language option in the first window you get an text as following: Erlesen ein Option derzeitig stemmen "einreisen die Laden" Knopf. This means free translated into German something like: choice an option at this time lift "tear down the shops" button. At first I didnīt know what they want but then I realised it should be "select an option then press Enter in the shop" button.
No offense to Blast, I admire their products. But this sentence always make me smile

Calvary in the lyberry, y'all
June 10 2008, 3:21 PM
Calvary for cavalry gets me too as does lyberry for library, quite common south of the Mason-Dixon line here in the CS-eh USA. Though plenty of we Northerners make the same mistakes.
To, two, too,
They're, their, there
Lack of captialization in web posts
It's, its
double negatives

That one drives me crazy, I admit
June 12 2008, 8:27 PM
I am a huge admirer of Gen. Gavin's but still, this urban myth drives me nuts. It seems once something is out there on the internet, no matter how baseless, it becomes truth.
