More on German uniforms, Normandy

A few months back I reported on an unusual uniform combination that I read about in the book, Normandiefront, by Vince Milano and Bruce Conner. I got a copy of the book which has quite a large number of photos to go with the text and found something else that I thought was interesting.

On page 44 there is a photo of two soldiers, one wearing a regular German army uniform, while the other is in a black uniform that is out of the ordinary. the caption says, "The Pionier on the left wears a British battle dress and trousers dyed black for use by mechanics and others who would deal with machinery."

The mechanic soldier wearing the captured British battle dress dyed black is wearing a standard German overseas cap.

Its a very interesting book.
