It works fine Lester, the variable seems to be the choice of paint you apply over the hairspray.

Hi mate. I've used it thinned with IPA successfully (my Gekko and 72nd StuG among others) and it worked fine. I don't really like thinning it with tap water, it doesn't seem to spray as well. I have used Mr Hobby thinner but it ended up a bit stubborn and didn't chip easily.

I always use Vallejo matt varnish and again, have had it work well. I must try and get some of the satin varnish, it would probably help with the weathering later on.

I've used Future with great success...

No adverse effects when used over Tamiya and Vallejo followed by hairspray.

Great varnish

If you've been struggling with Humbrol varnish for years, like me, then the Vallejo varnishes are a revelation. I recently did a hairspray job and believing that Vallejo was invincible i sprayed the hairspray on it after only 15 mins of drying time. This caused a bit of frosting on the model, so in future i would give it a few hours to dry thoroughly.
