i have been searching for realy
thin plastic to make straps from , and couldnt buy any anywhere.
Then i received a delevery of multi pack ink cartridges for my work printer
and the sealing lids i noticed were the same plastic as model plastic
so rather than bining them
so i took the lot
a perfect thickness realy thin

I use paper or Verlinden's lead foil

June 18 2009, 9:24 PM

If you see Verlinden's "strap material" avoid it... its funny thickish card that is printed (one side only) like canvas, black and brown leather... but it tends to delaminate when curved and you are instructed to glue it to lead foil anyway... I just use the foil and paint it...

TOOTH PASTE TUBE

June 21 2009, 1:33 AM

ANDREW,

I'm not too sure about th rest of th World... but here in America they have Toothpaste that comes in a Double Lined "Foil" tube... Thats what i use for Rifle Straps.

1) After you empty th Toothpaste Tube, cut each end off !!

2) open and Lay Flat.. inside facing up !! it needs to dry out.

3) Wipe out any left over residue.

4) cut to shape with Exacto #11 blade. You may want to also use P.E. buckles, but not nesassary

5) Paint & attach !!! it holds it's shape with out any undue effort. !!!!!

ENJOY... hope this helps !!!

Re: making rifle straps

I used to use a tissue paper, not the kind you wipe your butt with, the kind you would wrap gifts with. I would mix a water and white glue mixture and apply to paper, allow to dry and cut to width and length. The glue/water prevents fibers sticking out and allows some stiffness for forming.
