Dr. Strangelove again

I see that Squadron has, on the back page of its catalogue, a 90mm scale model of "King" Kong, the Slim Pickens character from Dr. Strangelove. I don't know why he isn't named in the advert for the kit, perhaps it's for legal reasons.

Well, that is certainly a kit that is a bomb.

Surely a copyright issue

Why else wouldn't there be any mention of the movie's title or the character's name on the packaging:

All that discussion about the new figure and the movie has given me an itch to go buy a copy...

Cheers!

I think you are right. Same reason you don't see jeeps referred to like you used to.

Most likely

That is most likely the reason look at Andrea Miniatures they have all sort of movie themed figures and they never use the movie names.

Not to be a buzzkill...

But after looking at larger photos of this figure, all I can say is that figure bears little resemblence to the late, great Mr. Pickens. It looks a little like Jabba the Hut.

I'll bet if Slim served in the SS they would have gotten it right.

The above link to a model of Herr Pickens is given for strictly historical reasons, not to promote Hollywoodism.

You SAY it looks like

October 30 2010, 9:19 PM

Major Kong. The manufacturer clearly made no reference as such. It's a "NOOK-U-LAR warriror" or whatever they call it. Any likeness is purely a co-incidence.

And I think it looks like Gene Simmons more than slim Pikens, but, what in the wide world a sports do I know....

"Some people are like slinkies- they are not good for much, but it's fun as hell to push them down the stairs!!!"
