Bernard,
Eddie Cochran was amazing. A superb guitarist and a great performer. The fact that he played a lot of the instruments on his recordings is almost unprescedented.
His songs, written with Jerry Capehart, were ahead of their time. Lyrics such as "I called my comgressman, and he said, quote" were so advanced for the time, 1958, it was superb.
I like all his stuff, the hits, such as "Summertime Blues" and "C'mon Everybody", but also stuff like 'Milk Cow Blues' and 'Cut Across Shorty'. Fantastic. One of my favourites is a song called "I Remember", which is a slow, ballad type of song. Simple, but effective. I love his live versions, and his live version of "Hallelulah I Love Her So". Man, it's rocking. That guy knew where it was at. He wore his orange Gretsch 6120 Western guitar like a gunslinger wears his gun. He was rock and roll personified. Fact.
I may mess about on here at times, and yeah, it's stupid and daft, and I'll stop it now.
But I do know about Rock and Roll music. My trip to the US in 2002 took me to Lubbock, Texas, and the hometown of Buddy Holly. I saw the relevant sights and met people 'In The Know', it was superb.
But to have people mocking me for performing those great songs.......it's laughable. The fact is that people WANT to hear these songs performed. Supply and demand, if you like. if I'm performing, I like giving 110%. So if I like the music I'm singing, I'm moved, and if I'm moved, the audience is moved. Rather than me being stood up at a mic dragging through something like 'Nirvana'.......performed to an audience of 40-70 year olds.
I like performing stuff by Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent, Del Shannon, Sam Cooke, etc. If people can honestly say that they would NOT be tapping their foot to that kind of music.....then they're not a music fan.
Timeless classics. Which people WANT to hear. |
